A to Z of Must-Do Travel Experiences – M for ‘Midnight Sun’
{ Tags: Arctic Circle, Midnight Sun, Norway, White Night \ Jun16 }The Midnight Sun is a phenomenon that occurs within the Arctic Circle and Antarctic Circle, as well as a little out of the Circles. In summer, the sun is visible at midnight, and with fair weather, some places can even experience 24 hours of sunlight.
There are only a few countries which are situated within these geographic boundaries, so the places to experience this phenomenon are limited to Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
At the Arctic Circle in Nordland, Norway, you can view this spectacular phenomenon from around the middle of June to the beginning of July. More precise dates and locations can be found on the Visit Norway website.
Taking advantage of the extended daylight hours, activities such as midnight cruises, bird watching, hiking, fishing and even golfing are being promoted.
