While worldwide travel seems to have been affected as a result of the swine flu outbreak, hardcore travellers can revel in the great discounts being offered. According to a recent entry in the Lonely Planet Blog, this unfortunate fiasco has caused many hotels and airlines to slash their prices to record low levels.

At the heart of the incident, hotels in Cancun and Riviera Maya, both popular Mexican tourist destinations, have dropped prices by some staggering 40 per cent. Some hotels have even given a “Free holidays for three years, if you catch swine flu” warrant. Ironically, not one tourist from Cancun caught the swine flu bug.
